Hansel McKoy

Founder of ScanMySEO | Technical SEO specialist | Writer on website audits, search visibility, performance, accessibility, and practical SEO workflows

Hansel McKoy is the founder of ScanMySEO, a website intelligence platform built to make technical SEO audits faster, clearer, and more actionable for small businesses, marketing teams, and agencies.

Hansel writes about technical SEO, website audits, crawlability, Core Web Vitals, content quality, accessibility, site health, and practical ways to turn SEO findings into real improvements. His work combines more than 10 years of hands-on SEO experience with the lessons learned from building ScanMySEO from the ground up.

About Hansel

Hansel has worked in SEO and digital marketing since 2014, starting as an SEO apprentice before moving through agency, in-house, public-sector, and founder-led roles.

Across his career, he has worked on technical audits, content strategy, website migrations, search performance reporting, analytics dashboards, Core Web Vitals improvements, schema rollouts, and SEO growth plans for organisations ranging from SMEs and charities to large commercial brands.

He has held SEO and digital roles across companies including Foundry, ADM, Gravity Global, Arts Council England, Betway, Passion Digital, Mindshare, and iProspect. His experience includes leading organic growth for global technology media brands, managing SEO across multiple supplement brands, delivering audits and growth strategies for global B2B and technology clients, and supporting hundreds of arts and culture organisations with SEO, PPC, and digital strategy.

Hansel created ScanMySEO after seeing the same problem repeatedly: technical SEO audits can be powerful, but they are often too slow, too complex, or too difficult for busy teams to act on. ScanMySEO was built to close that gap by turning complex website checks into clear, prioritised actions.

Why I built ScanMySEO

I built ScanMySEO because I believe good SEO advice should be easier to understand and easier to act on.

In agency, in-house, and public-sector roles, I saw how often teams were given long technical audits without a clear sense of what mattered most. Small businesses and lean marketing teams do not always have the time, budget, or technical support to interpret hundreds of warnings. They need to know what is hurting their website, why it matters, and what to fix first.

ScanMySEO is my answer to that problem. The platform analyses websites across areas such as technical SEO, metadata, internal linking, performance, accessibility, content quality, and site health. The aim is not just to find issues, but to help people understand which issues are most likely to affect visibility, usability, and business performance.

Professional background

Hansel’s professional background combines strategic SEO leadership with hands-on technical execution.

He has led organic growth work for major technology media brands including PCWorld, Macworld, Tech Advisor, and TechHive, using AI-powered, data-led SEO strategies, keyword intelligence, analytics, and content performance workflows.

At ADM, he owned the digital growth roadmap for multiple supplement brands across SEO, CRM, website optimisation, technical site health, reporting, and go-to-market planning. This included enterprise audits, indexation and rendering fixes, Core Web Vitals improvements, schema rollouts, and migration support.

At Gravity Global, Hansel delivered SEO and analytics strategies for global tech, finance, and B2B clients, including technical audits, content planning, migrations, CRO support, and competitive analysis.

At Arts Council England, he worked as a Search Engine Marketing Tech Champion, supporting hundreds of creative organisations with SEO, PPC, training, webinars, resources, and one-to-one guidance. This experience shaped his belief that digital tools should be accessible, practical, and useful for people without deep technical backgrounds.

ScanMySEO founder experience

As the founder of ScanMySEO, Hansel has built the product as a solo founder, combining SEO strategy with hands-on product development.

He has built and launched the platform using technologies including Python, Flask, Postgres, Redis, AWS, and automation tools. ScanMySEO’s custom scanner, Cozmo, is designed to turn complex website audits into faster, clearer SEO roadmaps.

The platform has already attracted early organic traction, with more than 200 registered users and real crawl activity across dozens of websites. The product continues to evolve around a simple principle: give users deeper website intelligence without overwhelming them.

How articles are written and reviewed

Articles on ScanMySEO are created to help readers understand website issues clearly and take practical action.

Hansel’s articles are based on a combination of:

  • first-hand SEO experience;
  • technical audit logic from ScanMySEO;
  • publicly available documentation and trusted industry sources;
  • real-world examples from SEO, website migrations, analytics, and digital growth work;
  • editorial checks for clarity, usefulness, and unsupported claims.

Where AI is used to support research, drafting, structuring, or editing, the final output is reviewed for accuracy, usefulness, and alignment with ScanMySEO’s standards before publication.

The goal is not to publish generic SEO advice. The goal is to explain what matters, why it matters, and what a business or marketing team can actually do next.

Editorial standards

Practical

Every article should help the reader make a better decision or take a clearer action.

Accurate

Claims should be grounded in experience, product logic, reliable documentation, or cited sources where appropriate.

Transparent

Readers should be able to understand who wrote the article, why they are qualified to write it, and how the content was produced.

Useful for non-specialists

Technical SEO should be explained in a way that business owners, marketers, founders, and agency teams can understand.

Boundaries of expertise

Hansel writes from an SEO, website quality, analytics, and digital growth perspective. Content that touches legal, medical, tax, financial, or regulated compliance topics should be reviewed by a qualified specialist in that field.
